Provision Company
Kicking things off in our list is one of the most popular food places in the entire town. Provision Company specializes in rustic seafood and has been serving fresh catch regularly since 1993. The atmosphere of the place can be described as laid-back and relaxed, making it perfect for chilling out and having fun. As an added bonus, the restaurant offers fantastic views, too! This place has got it all – great food, cold drinks, a chill atmosphere, and a stunning view.
Oak Island Nature Center
This next item is intended for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers. Oak Island Nature Center is a small preserve situated in the middle of pine trees, oak trees, and salt marshes. Its highlight, the Talking Trees Walking Trail, takes you through some of the most breathtaking vantage points in the area. The trail leads to a high point that gives you a clear sight of the island’s Intracoastal Waterway. Apart from the picturesque views, many activities are also held here. This includes educational exhibits, tours, and animal live animal encounters. On top of all this, there are picnic areas and fishing spots scattered around the area. This place is definitely the place to go if you want to spend a day of nature exploration.
Fort Johnston Museum
This would not be a list if it had not included a historical site of some sort. Fort Johnston, originally built in 1754, is perhaps the best-preserved historical attraction in the entire state. Get a blast of the past and explore the exhibits inside the museum, which range from original handwritten documents, artifacts, handicrafts, and photographs. If you want to learn more about Southport’s history, this is definitely the place to be. The best part about this place is perhaps that admission is free of charge.
Various Art Galleries
Art is a staple here in Southport. Art lovers will certainly be pleased to know that there are plenty of spots here to see and admire art in all its forms. For one, they have the Artshak Studio. Located around a barn-inspired area in downtown Southport, this cool gallery features a diverse collection of displays, including sculptures, paintings, photos, and more. The town is also home to Rick Evans Gallery as well as Lantana’s Gallery. Both of these places hold some of the finest handicrafts you’ll ever lay your eyes upon. You’ll find jewelry, sculptures, paintings, and other decorations both for display purposes or are held for sale.
Silvercoast Winery
Summing up our list is the well-established Silvercoast Winery in downtown Southport. The wines they have here on-site are award-winning and are most probably the most exquisite you’ll ever try. Apart from wines, they also offer craft beers that you can buy on draft or by the bottle. The beverages are aged in oak barrels and are prepared using traditional European methods. Within the area, there’s also a gift shop, a gallery, and a small outdoor patio for you to stay and have drinks while enjoying live band entertainment.
