5 Tips For a Cleaner Kitchen

Cooking is great fun; however, cleaning up isn’t always quite as enjoyable. However, cleaning up your kitchen is a necessary part of cooking. Not only is it hard to cook in a dirty kitchen, but it can even attract pests and lead to illness. Therefore, it’s important that you keep your kitchen clean and in order at all times. Take a look at some of the best ways to do so.

Clean as You Make a Mess

One of the biggest reasons why kitchens get so dirty is because people don’t clean as they go. The more that you let pile up, the more work that you’re creating for yourself. Instead of letting everything add up one by one, you should clean as you go while cooking. That means anytime you use a dish, put it in the sink and wash it immediately. Tiny jobs are much easier to do than everything all at once.

In addition to doing dishes right away, you should also put away ingredients as you go. From spices to sauces, put them away after you’re done using them.

Don’t Put Dirty Utensils on Your Countertops

All too often, people create unnecessary messes by putting their dirty spoons on the counter. All you’re doing is creating extra work for yourself when you could simply place it on a towel or a spoon rest.

Clean Your Counters Daily

It’s important that you keep your counters as clean as possible to avoid cross-contamination. Use warm water and a cleaning product of your choice to thoroughly clean your kitchen counter every single day. Professional kitchens have a daily closing routine where they clear off all surfaces, so why should your personal kitchen be any different?

Organize Cupboards

When you’re cooking or cleaning, it’s frustrating to have to dig for what you’re looking for. Organize your cupboards so that everything is easily found without having to dig. Not only does cooking take longer when you have to dig for whatever ingredient you need, but you can also accidentally drop something leading to a big mess. Organization means an easier cooking process in general.

Run The Dishwasher Daily

A lot of people wait to fill their dishwasher completely before running it. However, you might actually be doing yourself a disservice. The fuller that your dishwasher is, the less effective that it is at washing. Try to get into the habit of running your dishwasher every single day. If you have an energy-efficient dishwasher, then you’ll be saving yourself more water than you would use if you hand wash your dishes. In addition to running your dishwasher daily, you should also make sure that you empty it. That way, you start the day with an empty dishwasher that can easily be loaded as the day goes on.
