The Inside Scoop On Modern Christmas Shopping

August 30, 2018

The Christmas sales season is coming upon us, and it is time to get ready for Christmas shopping 21st century style. Unlike our parents and grandparents that had to wait in line at local stores or malls to find that absolutely perfect gift for their loved one, we have technology at our fingertips. No more stressing if the store has run out of that ideal kid’s toy or if that ugly Christmas sweater comes in the right size. Now we pop online, armed with a few handy apps.

Online Christmas Shopping Lists

Out of the perfect Christmas gift ideas? No worries. You can quickly zoom online and find handy lists and photos of the best gifts for mom, dad, or your kids. These usually link to online stores that sell these holiday products and may provide helpful videos. Not only that, with a few clicks of the button you can find the same item in different sizes or at a better price. Don’t underestimate the power of Top 10 Christmas Gift lists.

Coupons Coupons Everywhere!

Love shopping? Love saving money? Then install a coupon app on your phone or computer. These handy apps will send you a helpful alert when the holiday gift you are buying is a little less expensive on another site.

Sign up for coupon sites to receive helpful customized coupons in your inbox. Even social media sites will include great store codes to save ten, twenty, or even fifty percent off on certain items! If you are worried about spam, just be sure to unsubscribe after the holiday season. Some favorite sites include PricePal, Honey, Smartsaver, and SwagBucks. And don’t forget the power of the rebate – getting cash back for buying great products!

The Power of a Good Review

Before you click on that gadget or book, check out the customer reviews. Not sure what home appliance or tool to buy your loved one? Then take a moment to check out the ratings and customer reviews online. While some of these reviews can be fake reviews, the vast majority of them will be legitimate comments, ratings, and complaints from genuine customers. Check to see if there is way to verify the review on the site. Then look over the reviews. It can be helpful to group the reviews from Best to Worst ratings, or vice a versa.

If an item has seventy-five great reviews, four stars or more, and ten bad reviews, it might be the item for you. However, always read a few of the bad reviews. Sometimes an item, like a child’s toy, may be a great toy for a toddler or boring for a twelve-year-old. Or maybe there is a problem with the product that doesn’t affect most customers, but might affect your loved one. For example, a product is best for those that are very active, but might not be ideal for someone with physical limitations or limited eyesight. Be well-informed before purchasing the gift.

As Easy as 1-2-3

The best part about Christmas shopping online is that it saves you time! No more wasting gas and money driving around town looking for that perfect gift. Instead you can search for it quickly. And if you want to find unique handmade presents for Christmas, you can search any number of sites of artists, writers, and artisans who create beautiful handcrafted items like scarfs, handbags, poetry books, portraits, and more. Enjoy the ease of modern shopping this holiday season.

Top Types Of RV’s You Can Buy or Rent In Brandon, Florida

August 7, 2018

If you’ve decided that you would like to either buy or rent an RV, the next thing you will need to decide is what specific type of RV you would like.

While you can use resources such as Outdoorsy to help you explore your options in Brandon, it’s still wise to have a basic idea of the different types of RVs that are out there so you can more effectively narrow your search.

Here are the top types of RV’s you can buy or rent in Brandon, Florida:

Class A

A Class A RV is probably what comes to mind when you think of the word ‘motorhome.’ These are the biggest type of RV available and practically have an entire house inside of them, and they can have anywhere from one to five slide outs. These are also the most expensive RVs available, with new Class A’s rarely costing below sixty grand.

Class B

Class B motorhomes use a van as their foundation, and are of a more compact size than a Class A motorhome. In fact, some Class B motorhomes look more like vans than they do like RVs. They’ll still have a living space, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom and all that (at least usually), but everything will be in a much more compact and maneuverable size.

Class C

A more more popular types of RVs is the Class C motorhome, which is effectively a cross between a Class A and Class B. Class C motorhomes use a large truck as their foundation and are notable for always having an extra sleeping space over the cab. They can be built to the same sizes as a Class A motorhome, but are much cheaper.

Travel Trailer

A travel trailer, obviously, is simply an RV that you tow behind a truck. Travel trailers can vary in size dramatically from twelve up to thirty feet long, with an impressive array o luxuries as well. Prices of travel trailers can also vary dramatically, with prices ranging from as low as ten thousand to as high as one hundred thousand.

5th Wheel Trailer

The 5th Wheel Trailer is a larger sized travel trailer with a hatch pin that connects to a mount in the bed of a large pickup truck. The advantage is that the 5th wheel travel trailer is therefore much easier to pull, especially over rough or uneven terrain. However, you will need a truck that is fully capable of hauling the trailer (heavy duty trucks are really the only choice here).

Types of RVs

The type of RV you choose determines everything from the expense to the layout to how much storage space you have and so on. Now that you know what the basic types of RVs are, you’ll be able to narrow your search down more efficiently.

A Few Things You Should Know Before You Vacation In Barbados

July 27, 2018

We all know that Barbados is a beautiful part of the world, and its beauty is just one of the reasons why millions of people flock to the island every year. Throw in the tropical weather, absolutely stunning beaches and some gorgeous barbados homes for rent and you have the perfect recipe for a vacation of a lifetime.

However, there a few things you should know about Barbados before you fly there. Can these little bits of information help to make your vacation that much better? We think they can, so read on for more information:

Public Transport

Public transport in Barbados is very good, in fact, you will find many different bus stops dotted all over the island. This makes travelling from one part of the island very easy, and the even better news is that bus fares tend to be quite low. This means you don’t have to hire a taxi (Unless you really want to), and you can get from A to B with relative ease.

Bus timetables are available from the bus terminals, but you should be aware that the buses do not always run on time. This is because the island runs on Barbados time, which is a more relaxed time. So don’t worry if your bus is late, just relax in the knowledge that it will be with you soon. If you really must get somewhere in a hurry you may want to consider hiring a taxi. The good news is there are plenty of taxis around, so you can jump in one as and when you please.

You Cannot Wear Camouflage

While many people are happy to sport a camouflage t-shirt, some camouflage trousers and even a camouflage hat, in Barbados only the defence force is permitted to wear it. This may well mean that you’re unable to take your favourite pair of trousers with you, but leaving them behind can stop you getting into trouble.

Bajan Dialect

While those who are native to Barbados do speak English, they can be a little hard to understand at first. This is because the locals use the Bajan dialect which is simply a broken form of English. Do not worry if you cannot understand the person speaking to you, most Barbadians are very friendly and will not mind repeating themselves. Don’t worry though, after a few days you should be able to understand the local language fairly well.

Don’t Disturb the Turtles

It’s imperative that you do not disturb any turtles that you come across. While they may be very cute, especially the little ones who have just hatched, they are a protected species. Both the leatherback and hawksbill turtles are frequently monitored. So keep your distance from the turtles so that they can lay their eggs, or make their way back to the shore with relative ease.

The Climate

Barbados’ climate is an idyllic one, especially for those of us who love nothing more than feeling the sun beat down on us. With more than 8 hours of bright sunshine every day, the temperature is approximately 21 Celsius (70 Fahrenheit) at its lowest, and 32 Celsius (89 Fahrenheit) at its highest.

Barbados does have a hurricane season, but you’re unlikely to experience one as they tend to be quite rare. Hurricanes are more likely to hit the island in October, but you’ll probably experience a few storms rather than a nasty hurricane.

Shopping

Not a lot of people know that you can buy a lot of designer clothes and perfume for a lot less than you can in other countries. This is because you don’t have to pay the taxes on them. If you love nothing than a designer outfit, you should head to Broad Street in Bridgetown as you’ll find a wealth of clothes, jewellery and more for a lot less. Get shopping!

Dining Out

If you would like to dine out in style when you’re on vacation in Barbados, you should be prepared to pay approximately $130 BBD (Barbadian dollars) per person, in a very posh restaurant which is quite reasonable. Having said that, if you would like to dine somewhere a little cheaper and a little more informal then you should expect to pay approximately $15 BBD per person.

Rum, Rum, & More Rum!

The island of Barbados produces a lot of rum every year, and this has been the case for the last 350+ years. Needless to say, with huge amounts being produced on the island it tends to be quite cheap. This means that all of you rum-lovers out there should expect to enjoy a good shot or two of rum at quite a good price. However, shots of rum in this part of the world do tend to be quite big, and you may find that your delicious glass of rum and coke is more rum than anything else!

Now you know a little more about Barbados and what to expect, you can pack your suitcase accordingly. Be prepared to sun yourself and don’t forget to dine out somewhere special. Enjoy a few glasses of rum (You won’t need any more than a few!), and remember to let the turtles lay their eggs undisturbed. Have a wonderful vacation on this incredibly beautiful island, sit back, relax, and remember the island runs on its own time, so let your cares drift away, and enjoy yourself.

The Subtle Ways In Which Cooking With A Chef’s Coat Makes Life Easier

July 21, 2018

A chef needs a coat just as much as a construction worker needs overalls – they are just tools for the trade. The humble chefs coat (like these: https://www.chefworks.com/chef-coats-jackets) provides ultimate protection while also making the chef look fashionable and professional. When people think about a chef’s coat, these are the major benefits that are associated with it. But there is more to it than this, as the coat also offers the following subtle benefits that can make life in the kitchen easier for the chef:

Keeps the Chef Clean
A chef should be hygienic by staying clean (and keeping the kitchen clean) and nothing ensures this than a chef’s coat. The kitchen can get messy that it is almost impossible for the chef not to get spills and splashes on them. Not only does a chef’s coat protect the chef’s skin from getting burned if these things happen to be hot, it also keeps the clothes they are wearing underneath clean.

By keeping the clothes clean, it makes life easier as the chef doesn’t need to carry an extra pair of clothes to work. He or she can just remove the coat and carry on with other non-chef duties without looking messy. The coat takes all the stains from food remnants that would have ended up on the chef’s clothes had they not been wearing it.

Keeps the Chef Comfortable
A comfortable chef is an efficient chef, and many chef’s coats are designed to maximize comfortability. Just because an apparel is worn for protection, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be comfortable. One way it maximizes comfortability is by ensuring the chef remains cool since it can get pretty hot in the kitchen. This prevents them from perspiring profusely and getting an elevated body temperature thanks to the breathable fabric that chef’s coats are made from.

Not only that, the fabric of these coats is also flexible enough to allow the chef to move around the kitchen with ease. The material of the fabric is also lightweight, which prevents the chef from getting weighed down (with the long hours that a chef works in the kitchen, wearing something heavy can lead to a lot of pain).

Lets Kitchen Staff Know Who the Boss is
The chef is essentially the boss of the kitchen – the person that all kitchen staff look up to for leadership and guidance. Nothing reinforces this concept in the mind of kitchen staff better than wearing a chef’s coat. When kitchen staff can instantly recognize who the boss is, the chef can run the kitchen more efficiently.

Keeps the Chef’s Tools
While the kitchen is full of places where the chef can store his or her tools for convenience, the pockets of a chef’s coat can be used to store smaller tools that the chef needs at a moment’s notice. This includes things like ingredients, recipes, utensils, dish towel and even phone. All this provides more convenience, which makes life easier for the chef.

As you can see, the chef’s coat has subtle ways of making the chef’s job easier. It offers more benefits than the ones people see on the surface, making it even more of a must-have kitchen tool.

How To Encourage Healthy Eating Habits In Kids

June 20, 2018

Nutrition matters, but it’s hard to cut through all the diet plans, alarmist warnings, and photoshopped magazine spreads to find something that works for you and your kids in real life.

At the same time, America is experiencing an epidemic of lifestyle diseases increasing mortality and harming the quality of life. Our kids’ eating habits matter now, since it literally fuels their development, learning, and growth potential, and they are a foundation for a healthier future.

Here are our top picks for realistic, achievable ways to encourage healthy eating habits in your kids.

Be prepared

Lack of preparation leads to poor mealtime and snacking choices. Healthy eating habits start with the weekly grocery shop. Whole foods are better than packaged because they don’t have unhealthy additives like preservatives, salt, sugar, and other added flavorings, but they are more work to prepare.

Consider batching your meal prep. Pick a day and time every week or every few days as appropriate to your needs to wash, peel, chop, grill, or otherwise prepare whole foods into snackable format. This saves time during the week and makes you more likely to grab a healthy snack or eat a healthy meal when you’re hungry, instead of reaching for something packaged. A few fast, healthy, and tasty recipes on hand also solves the problem of what to make for dinner.

Frozen vegetables are a great alternative for those who struggle to find the time and/or motivation to deal with whole food prep. Freezing preserves most of the flavor and nutritional value and tends to provide whole foods in washed and precut formats. Canned foods may be a viable alternative, but watch out for added salt, sugar, or preservatives to extend shelf life.

Go age appropriate

Our nutritional needs and tastes change as we enter different stages of life. This handy guide to healthy eating can help you get up to speed. An infant, toddler, growing child, or teen, each has different needs, and there can be quite a variation between individuals in terms of food sensitivity, metabolism, and activity levels.

If you understand your child’s nutritional needs based on their stage of development, you’ll be better equipped to offer meals or snacks that are actually healthy for them, not just marketed as being age-appropriate. Kids that are getting developmentally appropriate nutrition tend to be higher functioning, better at learning, and happier.

Heavy on the (healthy) fats

Today’s adults were taught that low fat meant healthy. Unfortunately, we were all duped. Dietary fat intake does not mean your kids are going to get softer around their middles. In fact, more healthy fat in their diets can help them support better body composition and healthier whole-body growth.

Dietary fat is essential to proper biological functioning, supports brain development, and provides satiety–that feeling of fullness–cutting down on unhealthy snacking or binge eating. Salmon, avocados, and olives are all sources of healthy fats. Butter and whole-fat dairy from grass-fed cows, eggs, and animal protein can be beneficial as well.

Gaining a better understanding of your kid’s nutritional needs, stocking healthy foods in accessible formats in the home, and increasing the amount of healthy fat in your kid’s diet can support healthier eating habits. Having access to the right foods is more than half the battle.

A Simple Guide for Creating an Effective Food-Themed Blog

May 2, 2018

The internet has given rise to the blog business in a big way. This has given people the opportunity to blend passion and blog writing in a way that might have been impossible without the internet. Those who love food may want to consider starting a food-themed blog, and the following guide will help you create a successful blog site.

Know the Foundation of Good Writing

It is important that you know how to write a good blog post. This is not only done to ensure that search engines rank your site but also for the good of your readers. Making sure you have an editor is important, especially for a food blogger who shares recipes. Readers need to be able to understand instructions clearly. Make sure that you do not forget SEO best practices and effective keyword usage throughout your blog posts.

Creating an Effective Support System

Part of what is going to make your blog successful is the business aspect. There are a number of ways that you can make money off of your blog site, and you need to use multiple routes. One of the most effective financial streams is affiliate marketing, which allows you to advertise food-related products on your site. As this affiliate marketing guide explains in detail, you get a piece of the sale should anything be purchased through your link.

Of course, you can also partner with food-focused companies directly and mention them one way or another on your site. Now, depending on the type of food blog you create you can also consider writing a recipe book or something similar that you can sell to your readers. You can sell your content on your own website, or you can use a third party if you want.

Variety and Simplicity

Another thing you have to make sure you do with your blog site is give your readers variety and simplicity. Online readers are expecting new and exciting content, which is one reason you should make sure you provide a wide range of recipes and/or dining experiences. Narrowing it down to a certain kind of cooking or style of restaurant is fine, but take steps to provide a well-balanced stream of content.

Those offering recipes should definitely consider a focus on fast and easy meal options. While intricate dishes which take hours to prepare can be included from time to time, delicious and simple recipes tend to be the most popular.

The same goes for blogs which focus on restaurants; ultra-fine dining is fine but you’ll probably find the most success with an emphasis on “greasy spoon” style eateries.

Create the Content Readers Want

It is important that you keep your ear to the ground when it comes to the content you create. Yes, you need to make sure that you write about something that you understand well, but you should also make sure that your content is on everyone’s mind. It is not always possible to be topical when it comes to food, but you can try whenever possible.

For example, those who are reviewing restaurants can talk about new restaurants or new menu items. Those who are sharing recipes may want to try ingredients that are popular at the time. Thankfully, most food-related blog posts are evergreen, which means your posts should stay relevant for a long time, but creating a topical subject should help boost your post initially.

These are just some of the things you can do to create an effective and successful food-related blog site. You do not have to implement these suggestions all at once if you do not have the resources but do your best. Remember, gaining a following is going to take time so be patient.

How To Plan A Small Wedding Reception When Renewing Your Vows

April 19, 2018

Renewing your vows is a romantic and time-honored tradition that can bring you and your loved one closer together. Many couples choose to solidify this special event with a ceremony and reception, but also find that throwing a big party or replicating the extravagance of your wedding simply isn’t in the cards.

While the word “budget” tends to churn stomachs in the wedding industry, a smaller reception can hold the impact of a big party while keeping things more intimate for the two of you. Here’s how to plan a day to remember without breaking the bank.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

The goal of renewing your vows is not to compete with your wedding day but to proclaim your undying love for one another, proving that you’re both still wholly committed after all these years. So, don’t shoot for the same invitations, flowers, and entrees you had for your reception.

Simple invitations will work just fine and offer you a wider range of customization when opting for a kit. You can still find hundreds of elegant looking options without paying the price for customized engravings. Keep food simple with either an easy-to-make pasta menu or a crowd favorite amongst you and your friends. Who doesn’t like a good pizza, right?

You could skip the big meal altogether and opt for something a little more unconventional. Try a bright and vibrant candy display using fun devices like the ones found on

https://www.sweetservices.com/Vending-Machine-Candy/. Alternatively, you could keep things cheap by utilizing an horderves table filled with cheeses, fruits, and breads.

Unexpected Savings

Did you know that vow renewals don’t require a legal officiant? All you need is a good friend willing to preside over the ceremony for you. To many couple’s surprise, there are a ton of unexpected savings they can take advantage of.

Instead of hiring a band or DJ, make a playlist containing all of your favorite songs to keep you and your friends dancing throughout the reception. Make the day more personal by ditching the professional photographer and asking your friends to take photos on their phones throughout the night. You’ll end up with a fun, exciting, and beautiful album.

Another unexpected saving comes in the form of dresses and suits. There are no specific colors or designs required for a vow renewal, allowing groomsmen to wear simple suits that they already own. Bridesmaids can color-coordinate dresses, or choose to match entirely with the excellent bridesmaid dresses and bridesmaid gowns on Azazie.

Bargain Shopping

Finally, you can save money by knowing where to find amazing pieces for your ceremony and reception. Choose to buy your flowers from a local nursery, but make sure to pick whatever is in season and under budget. Use the tops of simple roses for boutonnieres and give each bridesmaid only one flower to hold (signifying the unity of your marriage).

Skip the overpriced wedding cake and pick up a plain white one from your local supermarket. While you’re there, grab a few decorator tubes, icing, and cake toppers that go with your lover’s theme. Then, you can add your own special touch to the cake!

With all of these savings, you should be able to book your reception anywhere and have plenty left over in the budget for drinks. No matter what you end up deciding on, remember that the party and ceremony aren’t the most important parts of the day. All that matters is the love you two share for one another, and that your marriage is a happy and enduring one.

Springtime Is Here – Time To Clean!

April 19, 2018

Strike While The Iron’s Hot

In metallurgy, when a blacksmith went to shape a sword, he would first put the metal atop hot coals in order to heat it such that it became nigh-molten. At that point the blacksmith would beat impurities from the metal, and shape it to his will. But seldom is a blacksmith seen to beat cold metal. This doesn’t have the desired effect!

From this reality comes the phrase “strike while the iron’s hot”, which refers to getting things done when you have the opportunity to, and conditions are conducive to your efforts.

Spring cleaning is an example of this kind of thinking put into practice. It’s not too hot or cold in spring, and cleaning is much easier. It’s good to get certain chores impossible during the winter done at this transitionary period between winter and summer.

Spring Cleaning Strategies

There are a lot of different things you can do. You can stick with basic maintenance and repair, but spring is also a great time to augment your property. For example, what kind of irrigation maintains your landscaping? Do you have to go out there with a hose, or screw one of those hardware store sprinklers on the male end and place it in the middle of the lawn? There’s a better way!

Automatic Lawn Sprinkler is a company that can really help you keep your landscape at its peak; according to the site, they serve a broad variety of clientele as well: “Automatic Lawn Sprinkler serves New Jersey, New York, Long Island, and Connecticut as the area’s premier design/build irrigation system and landscape lighting contractor.”

Spring is also a great time to hire an HVAC Contractor and get your heating and air conditioning technology spruced up—HVACContractors.com provide professionals who render service in terms of customer satisfaction as well as repair: “Trust and courtesy may not be the first thing that comes to mot people’s mind when it comes to HVAC repairs, but with HVAC Contractors, we make sure you get the best treatment along with your service.”

Something else that’s a great idea to do in the spring is remodeling work. There are plenty of projects you can do yourself that will only require a few weeks’ worth, and could very well bring value to your property when complete. Adding renewable energy solutions like solar panels will increase energy and can help protect your roof, netting you a tax-break and expanding the value of your home simultaneously. Whatever kind of augmentations are cost-effective and could increase property value are worth considering.

The Reality

Your property will depreciate eventually, but if you are diligent to maintain it and renovate it at intervals, you can get ahead of that depreciation with added value. Provided said property is in a good location, you can see the stationary investment of your home yield high return in the fullness of time.

However, homes are some of the least liquid investments out there. If you invest in a home, you’d better be willing to stay put for a decade or more. Being so willing, and then not properly taking care of the property you own, is basically just throwing money away.

Spring cleaning can be made into a natural expression of your property ownership on an annual basis. Make for yourself a list in late summer, and keep updating that list until the springtime thaw; then get to it with a vengeance before the heat hits.

Do that often enough and not only will you maintain your property’s value, you’ll reduce the overall work involved in spring cleaning, meaning less work will provide more benefit over time. But you’ll have to reach your “cruising altitude” in terms of regular cleaning and maintenance first! Take stock of your property’s situation right now, figure out what you need to do, and get it done. Once that’s a tradition in your house, it will continue to get easier.
