Browned Butter Rice Krispy Treats with Vanilla bean

Rice Crispy Treats Made With Browned Butter and Vanilla Bean

by Megan on June 17, 2011

While stumbling along  on the internet,  I cam across this  post for Browned Butter Rice Krispy Treats on The Merry Gourmet. It was a guest post written by Brian who has the great blog   A Thought For Food .

At first I thought

“Rice Krispy Treats? Really?”

Then I read on and Brian said

“You may be thinking,

“Really, Rice Krispies treats? You couldn’t think of anything slightly more sophisticated?”

But before you judge, just try them.”

Rice Krispy Treats with Browned Butter and Vanilla Bean

So I checked out the recipe and I can tell you that the browned butter caught my curiosity, but the addition of 1/2 a vanilla bean, reeled me in!

I have already made 3 batches of these fabulous treats and I will always make them this way from now on!

We loved the extra depth of flavor that browning the butter gives it. The vanilla bean makes these a bit of a splurge, but you can always use vanilla extract instead. Before, I would melt the marshmallows in the microwave, in a big bowl that was never big enough when I added the cereal. Making it in my biggest pot on the stove gives me plenty of room to mix everything up.

These are perfect for Summer, 4th of July, picnics, or Father’s Day!

But you don’t have to save them for a special occasion.

I made them for the races, camping, and just because.

I hope you’ll try them.

These are darned good treats, aren’t they? I’ve made a few batches myself and shared with my colleagues at work. They all complimented them and asked what made them taste different – better – than the traditional rice krispies treats. I made a mental note at that time to ONLY make this recipe.

Thanks for sending people over my way! *hugs*

I’m not sure when I’ll ever get a hold of a vanilla bean right away, but I’ll be trying out the browned butter in one of my favorite treats (these) SOON! I think I even have some mallows and cereal right now! Bye.

Gotta have these soon! I can eat a whole batch by myself, and it is possible that I could hurt myself with this improved version.

It might say to melt them in a pan on the box but I have always used the microwave. I wont anymore because I’ll always make them this way now. The brown butter gives it a nuttier taste and the vanilla bean is my favorite. Taste the marshmallow with the vanilla bean in it and you’ll see what I mean!
