Meatball Recipe: Pioneer Style!

by Megan on February 6, 2010

Welcome to my new home!

Please , come in and make yourself comfortable. Grab a cup of coffee and take a look around.  I still have a lot of work to do still but I’m happy to be settling in to my new place. You like?  I still have the recipe index to build and a store to stock! It will take me a little time so be patient with me.

And I have some home cookin to celebrate my new address!

Meatballs Pioneer Style!

Meatballs. Pioneer style!
Actually…Pioneer Woman style! Or,… something like that.
You see, I got this recipe from The Blond Duck. This is her Mother in Law’s, mother’s recipe. So that would make  it was her hubby’s granny.
But she actually got the recipe out of People Magazine which was featuring the Pioneer Woman and her meatballs. You’ll have to go read the story over at A Duck in Her Pond. It’s really pretty funny.

But where ever these meatballs came from, they’re just good old, rib sticking, down home, country food. Comfort food! Like meatloaf only better. We had them for dinner. And for a snack. They are so good. I know you’ll like them.

And they make  a pretty impressive appetizer too.

In fact, isn’t there a big game coming up?

I’m thinking this would be perfect football food!

MEATBALLS

  • 1-½ pound Ground Beef
  • ¾ cups Oats
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 3 Tablespoons Very Finely Minced Onion
  • 1-½ teaspoon Salt
  • Plenty Of Ground Black Pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • Canola Oil

FOR SAUCE

  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire
  • 4 Tablespoons (to 6 Tablespoons) Onion
  • 1 dash Tabasco
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine all meatball ingredients. Roll into medium-small balls and place on a cookie sheet. Place sheet in freezer for five minutes.

After 5 minutes, remove meatballs from freezer and immediately dredge in unseasoned flour.

Brown meatballs in  oil until  brown. You dont want to cook them, just brown them. Place into a greased baking dish.

Combine all sauce ingredients. Pour over meatballs and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Love the new layout and colors. Not a fan of the tool caddy image. The colors look weird. Anyway, meatballs look yummy! I can definitely eat a whole bowl of them if I’m not careful.

Your new look is so pretty!

And you have my mouth watering for those meatballs. I can see these being made ahead and put in the freezer for future snacking, if any survived after coming out the oven. ;D

Have to try these very soon, maybe with chicken mince.
