My co-worker and good friend Michelle is having a grandbaby! We’re so excited for her as she is the mother of four boys, and she’s having a grand-daughter! So we threw her a surprise shower at work! And we pulled it off without a hitch! She was totally shocked and we had so much fun.
We set up a little table and served cookies and Vietnamese coffee. The morning gal stayed and volunteered her time to serve lunch with me. (Have I mentioned I work in a school cafeteria?)
Michelle could sit back and check out all her gifts. Things to stay at grandma’s house!!!
I baked some adorable duck cookies.
I packaged a few cookies for Michelle to take home and share with her family.
Don’t they look all dressed up for Spring? These would also be perfect for Easter, or for a tea party!
I wanted to do onesies for the shower, but I couldn’t find a cookie cutter. But these turned out so cute, I’m glad I couldn’t find one!
First I baked the sugar cookies. I used my favorite recipe.
Then using the same cookie cutter I used for the cookie, I cut out ducks from some rolled fondant.
Then I brushed some corn syrup over the entire cookie…
and placed the fondant duck cutout over the cookie. Just give it a little smooth job.
Then using a knife, I gave it a few slits to define some tail feathers.
Cutting off colored beak, I replace them with an orange beak.
I used the Wilton Pastel fondant, so I just mixed a little red food coloring into the yellow fondant and I was good to go! I did cut out the beaks using the nose of the cookie cutter.
Then top them off with a cute little eye! I bought mine from Bake It Pretty.
Now I got all my ducks in a row!
I’m thinking I might try a carrot for Easter!
I’m submitting this to Foodie Friday hosted atDesigns by Gollum. Check out all the other foodies and see what they brought to the potluck! You might want to grab a cup of coffee first!

Those are darling!! What a great idea for a baby shower, or for Easter!
Lovely cookies, I am impressed by that method of putting fondant on top rather than having to flood with icing. Will give it a try soon.

Hello there!
I found your blog through a few mutual bloggers, and I saw this post and wanted to comment. These are ADORABLE! My sis and I have been experimenting lately with sugar cookies, and good icings to top them with. I never really thought about using fondant, great idea!
Oh my Megan, those are so cute! I vow to try fondant this summer!

These are really gorgeous. One to add to the list for sure! A lovely gift.
These are so adorable.
Those are totally cute!
Every time I see these duckies on your page, I want to bite their little heads off.
I mean that in the nicest way possible.
Ok I have a question. I attempted to make these cookies but when I baked the ducks they baked up larger than the original cookie cutter size so when I cut the fondant it wasn’t a perfect match
How do I get the cookies to stay their pre-baked size?
Sherena, My cookies puffed up too but the cut fondant looked fine on them. (see picture) It covered the tops and looked great. The exact same cut makes for an optical illusion of perfection!
Hi Megan,
I bought the wilton pastel pack and has four colours., how many cookies do you figure you can make with the amount of fondant that is in the package? I am so excited to try this out, I never would have thought of using corn syrup to smooth it out….. thanks for the tips
I am going to make animal farm cookies the same way for my friends baby shower
Very ,very, ducky!!!
