This recipe looks heavenly and I’ll be sure to try it soon. Stephchows joked about no butter in a Paula Deen recipe and I had to laugh because the Paula Deen recipe I use and has been in my southern family for generations does call for butter! Unfortunately, this recipe Megan found, though Paula Deen’s, is a northern style of banana pudding! Northern-style uses whipped cream; southern-style uses meringue on top. For generations in the south we’ve made our banana pudding with meringue on top… all the church functions we’ve attended, all the reunions and we never saw it any other way. But just yesterday at a church meal my husband and I were discussing banana pudding with a group of friends. When a couple of younger people said they put whipped cream on top mouths dropped all around the table. Someone whispered, “That’s northern style.” Then, a very old gentleman admitted he uses whipped cream and even confessed to using a mix for his pudding! There, it’s out - sacred lines have been crossed. I heard one guy say to his wife as they walked away, “Okay, but not on Easter. I want my meringue for Easter.” So, tomorrow, the day before Easter Sunday, I’ll make my southern style banana pudding with meringue on top and made-from-scratch pudding and it will be perfect. But in a few weeks, I’m going to quietly touch my toe across that Mason Dixon Line. If anyone up there wants to do the same, you can find Paula’s other recipe on foodnetwork.com. It can be found under Paula's Party Episode: Decades.

A co-worker made this for the office Christmas party one year and Everyone LOVED it! I want to try the new Alton Brown baked version, b/c my FIL's Southern restaurant makes it warm and it's just unreal. But this looks like the perfect cool version!

Wow! This recipe is a surprise but it sounds so easy! I love the Chessmen cookies on top - so cute! I am going to have to try this one. Some of Paula's recipes are just genius.
