About

Welcome to my kitchen!

I’m not a professional cook or anything, I’m just an ordinary girl who has a knack in the kitchen and a passion for all things food!.

I grew up in the kitchen with free range to make pretty much what ever  I wanted. Growing up, when friends came over with the munchies, we didn’t open a package of cookies, (OK, maybe sometimes) we baked a few dozen. My mom always said, “If your going to heat the oven, you might as well double the batch.”  Those words have stuck in my head, all my life, and I have a hard time making half a batch of anything. It’s double or nothing. That’s what happened to my waist line!

I grew up in the back of my parents music store in Redding, Ca. The only thing that seperated my family’s kitchen and the music store was a swinging door much like you would find in an old time saloon. Mom was ALWAYS near by. So I had free range in the kitchen as long as I cleaned my mess. There might have been a few fights with mom over that little cleaning matter. Eventually my love of cooking landed me the chore of the family dinners.

My first job was at a hamburger joint. Artic Circle. Remember those? There is still some around but I don’t think many. I worked there in the mid 70′s and I still remember the menu. It’s deeply ingrained. Amazing the stuff a kid will soak up. I didn’t learn anything about cooking there, just thought it was an interesting fact.

As a young adult, we had lots of BBQs. My favorite thing to make back then was BBQ chicken, Sour Cream and Chive Potatoes (from a box) and fresh fruit salad with yogurt as the binder. My friends thought I was a culinary genius. LOL

In my 20′s I moved to Reno. One of my best friends was an avid hunter so I learned how to cook a goose, throw a Fish Fry, and I got my hands dirty in deer hearts and liver. Glad those days are over. But I do miss the Fish Fry’s!

Now I’m old and seasoned and I tend to cook more traditional. I like to try new recipes and use new ingredients that I find but for the most part, it’s going to be simple food. I belong to the groups “The Daring Bakers” and the “Healthy Bread in 5 Minutes A Day”. Not everything here might look simple, but that’s when I’m growing. Up and out!

Welcome to my culinary adventure!

Hey Megan, do you have the recipe posted somewhere for that dessert Kellie gave me a couple weeks ago. It was really good. It had a cookie bottom, some cream and then some orange slices on top.

Oh fun city, Megan! This is a beautiful blog. I love the photo tags on the side. I keep telling myself I’ll have more time to figure out all these nifty tricks when school is out for the summer.
